Edging Flannel Baby Blankets

Patterns by Omak

Small picture of each "blanket" with edgings.

The recieving blankets were 30" X 30". To prepare the flannel edges to receive the crocheting, I used a serger and rolled hem function with both needles - the finished edge was just a bit shy of 1/4". When working with thread on flannel, I found that prepunching the crochet holes with a seaming needle saved my fingers immensely. Prepunch holes about 1/2" apart.

Sample number one:

Picture

Rnd 1:  Sc in each sp around - on the corners, do 3 sc in space, ch 1, 3 sc in same sp.
Rnd 2:  Sc in any ch 1, * sk 2 sc, (3dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next space, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around - in each corner ch 1, work 4 or 5 dc, ch 3, 4 or 5 dc - sk 2 sc, sc in next sc -

Sample number 2:

Picture

Rnd 1:  3 sc in each hole, making 3 sc, ch 1, 3 sc in each corner around - sl st in first sc made.
Rnd 2:  * Sc between two groups of 3 sc, in next sp between 3 sc, 5 dc, sc in next sp between 3 sc. Repeat from * around.

In each corner you may find that you either sc in the ch 1 sp, OR make as many dc as needed to create a smooth corner on your blanket (or item) without the corner curling up - sometimes, I had to make 9 dc - sometimes only 6 or 7.

This edging is worked in one row.
* 3 sc in each hole, chain 3, sl st in last sc made (picot). Repeat from * around - in corner hole, work at least 2 of the 3 sc, ch 3, sl st in last sc made. The object of the corner sts is to cover the material.
