Hope you are doing well. Although we had planned to begin preschool in September, we—Dave Johnson, rector at Christ Church and I—have decided that due to the continuing spread of COVID 19 and for the safety of our children, teachers and their families, that Christ Episcopal Preschool will not be opening this fall. Late in 2020 we will explore the possibility of reopening in January 2021. Refund checks will be mailed to those who have paid a registration fee. Please know that this has been a hard decision for both of us. The health and safety of everyone was our primary concern. You remain in our hearts and prayers. Please stay safe. Sincerely, Elise Sandbach

Elise Sandbach’s 4-year-old classroom

Christ Episcopal Preschool strives to offer relational, developmentally appropriate, and play-based learning for children ages 2-4 years old. Classes are from 9:00 a.m. to noon, Monday-Friday, with the new option of a three-day-per-week class for two-year-olds. The school observes holidays and coordinates the schedule with the city and county holidays whenever possible.

The curriculum at Christ Episcopal Preschool is not standardized, but rather is a developmentally appropriate program developed by Elise and the other teachers, who between them have over 50 years of teaching experience. Each class focuses on one subject a week using creative play, art, stories, and occasional guests to reinforce learning. Playtime on the play equipment on the back patio of the Gabard building is a favorite part of the day. This state-of-the-art equipment has a shade covering, outdoor musical instruments, and a climbing gym.

Our teachers nurture each child and encourage a love of learning. Lead teacher Elise Sandbach teaches the four-year-olds. Ms. Sandbach has been teaching since 1986, and has been at Christ Episcopal Preschool since 1992. Leah Rowe teaches the three-year-old class. Ms. Rowe taught for many years in the Valdosta City School system at S. L. Mason Elementary School. Millie Johnson teaches the two-year-olds in the five-day class, and Jacquie Thigpen teaches the three-day two-year-old class. Each class also has a paraprofessional who assists in the school: Carrie Patterson, four-year-old class; Barbara Self, three-year-old class;  and Ashley Drazdowski, two-year-old class (three-day). See our Preschool & PMO Staff page for photos of all of our teachers and aides!

For an application form and other information for the 2020-2021 Preschool year, please call the church office at (229) 242-5115 for any additional information. If your child is not yet old enough for preschool, Christ Episcopal Church also offers a Parents’ Morning Out Program for younger children.

Christ Episcopal Preschool was established in 1983 by Retired Bishop Henry Louttit while he was rector of Christ Church. Bishop Louttit envisioned the Preschool as a form of mission outreach that would provide a rich learning experience for children in a happy, loving environment, and this purpose still guides our program today.
