Children and Youth

Children’s Chapel

Learning songs and prayers, and of course, playing together are important components of growing in the light of Christ. The Christ Church children’s program provides an interactive Gospel activity using the Godly Play curriculum. Children ages PreK through 3rd grades are invited to participate. Although children of all ages are always welcome in worship at Christ Church, we do offer the option of nursery care for babies and toddlers under 3 years old.

On Sunday mornings children are welcomed at 9:15 a.m. in the Gabard Building so parents can attend the Bible study before the 10 a.m. service. Children’s Chapel begins around 10 a.m. Children can join in at any time between 9:15 and 10 a.m. New volunteers are welcome. The children return to their families in the church during the Peace and are present for Communion. Young children enjoy following Fr. Hal in the recessional to help ring the church bell following the service.

Contact the Christian Education Director Michelle Weidman for more information or to volunteer, 229-262-0426.

EYC – Episcopal Youth Community

EYC is a vibrant and fun group for teens in grades 8-12 that meets in the Gabard Building at 6 p.m. on Sunday. The evenings are filled with Bible study, games, and conversation.

We always share a meal and have time for prayer as well. Our teens are incredibly involved with New Beginnings and Happening, diocesan wide weekend events.

New Beginnings is a weekend retreat for teenagers in grades 7-9 led by a team of mostly teenagers, with a few adults, and two clergy who serve as spiritual leaders at the Episcopal Conference Center in Waverly, Georgia, near Brunswick. The center is known as Honey Creek.

Happening is a weekend retreat for youth led by youth also held at Honey Creek. Teenagers in grades 9-12 talk about God’s place in their lives, worship, play, and sing. They make new friends who share similar concerns from across the diocese. For many years Christ Church youth have held leadership roles in these programs. Happening #109, April 7-9, 2024, will be led by Christ Church member Maddie Yarbrough as rector.

The Diocese of Georgia offers three summer camps at Honey Creek.
High School camp (completed grades 9-12) / June 2-8, 2024
Camp St. Peter (completed grades 6-8) / June 9-15, 2024
Camp Saints Joseph & Mary (completed grades 3-5) / June 16-22, 2024
