Diocese of Georgia Architect Honored

Christ Church Valdosta member Blake Ellis has been honored by the Florida Association of The American Institute of Architects with his design for St. Paul’s by the Sea in Jacksonville, named one of the best 100 buildings built in the state of Florida in the last 100 years.

St. Paul’s by the Sea Episcopal Church, designed by Blake Ellis, Architect of Valdosta, Ga. in 1967, and built in Jacksonville Beach, Florida won many architectural awards when it was built, but it is now almost 40 years old, and to be selected 40 years later for this honor is very special. Blake is best known in the Diocese for serving as the architect for our camp and conference center at Honey Creek including the Chapel of Our Savior.

The Florida AIA has set up an online competition to vote for and select the 20 best buildings of this group of 100 based on which one gets the most online votes. Polls close at midnight on April 6th. The website is: http://www.aiaflatop100.org (Select “Jacksonville Beach” as the city and you will see pictures and a description of the church.)
