Fall 2013 Worship Service and Sunday School Schedule

At their meeting on August 5th, the Vestry considered the question of the schedule for our Sunday worship services and Sunday School after August. After a full discussion of the results of the parish-wide survey on these topics, the vestry made these three decisions:

1) Sunday School will resume on September 8th, and will be held at 9:00 a.m.;

2) our Sunday worship services will continue to be at 8:00 a.m, 10:00 a.m., and 6:00 p.m.;

3) the type of music for the 10:00 a.m. service will be the subject of a collaborative discussion between our musicians, and the Vestry looks forward to the results of their discussion.

In the Episcopal Church the rector of a parish is in charge of the worship of the community with the consultation of the lay leadership in the parish. But an interim time is somewhat different. Our interim rector, the Rev. Joye Cantrell, recognizing that she will only be in place during the transition, encouraged the vestry to make this decision by themselves, under their own authority as lay leaders. The decision was not an easy one to make, and the members of the vestry appreciate all of the input received from the congregation, both through the survey and through comments from individuals. Now that the schedule has been set, we all look forward to our fall schedule of worship services and other programs.

The parish-wide survey done some months ago specifically noted that a majority of members of Christ Church desired to have Christian education on Sundays. This had been discussed by the Vestry with the Rev. Canon Frank Logue when he met with the Vestry a month ago, and he encouraged us to continue to incorporate it into our Sunday morning schedule as we deliberated how to move from the summer schedule into the fall. We encourage all members and friends of Christ Church to support our 9:00 a.m. Sunday School and the adult education programs that will accompany it.

As always, the Vestry members and I are willing to answer your questions and address your concerns at any time.
