At Christ Episcopal Church, Valdosta, GA, we celebrate the unconditional love of God given all of us in Jesus Christ; as the Apostle Paul wrote, “God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Our vision–“To weave together diverse people, empowering all to share the love of Christ in the world”—supports our three-fold focus: to preach the gospel, to love one another, and to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit. We are grace-centered in our theology, community, and ministry. This focus is captured in this powerful collect from The Book of Common Prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen. (p. 101).

We are seeking a highly motivated ordained priest or transitional deacon of the Episcopal Church who fully believes what we profess in the Nicene Creed, and possesses the following: a heart to reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ (particularly college students, youth, and young adults), experience leading contemporary worship, and a good sense of humor.

The Assistant to the Rector will work with the rector, staff, and vestry of Christ Church in a grace-centered and mutually supportive way. In addition to assisting the rector with celebrating and preaching, the Assistant to the Rector will:

• Develop a ministry to Valdosta State University (literally across the street from Christ Church) that is integrated with the life and ministry of Christ Church.

• Further develop the Youth Ministry at Christ Church through relational ministry, EYC gatherings, Sunday School, occasional weekend events, etc. This would also include fully integrating Christ Church Youth Ministry in the life of the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia through participation in Happening, New Beginnings, retreat weekends, summer camps and other youth-related activities.

• Assist with developing and leading worship for an additional Sunday morning service.

• Participate fully in the life and ministry of Christ Church and the Diocese of Georgia.

Compensation package includes a generous salary, housing in a newly-renovated house on the Christ Church property, medical insurance, pension, and opportunities for continuing education.
