POSITION TITLE: Children and Youth Ministries Director

CHARACTERISTICS AND ABILITIES:

— Insight/understanding of how children grow and learn
— Willingness to work with others in ministry
— An open mind and a willingness to risk and learn

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

This ministry invites children and youth to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ, guiding them in their moral and spiritual development, and equipping them for responsible service in their church, society and world.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

— Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a related field
— Experience in effectively leading a youth and/or children’s group
— Ability to effectively relate and interact across age and diversity groups
— Working knowledge of the Episcopal tradition or a willingness to learn about the Episcopal Church
— Report to Rector

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

— Create a vision for the children and youth program consistent with the church’s vision
— Develop and implement a balanced youth program incorporating spiritual growth, discipleship, and evangelism
— Plan spiritual growth programs, activities, and events that include opportunities for youth to worship, fellowship, learn Biblical truths, and apply them to their lives
— Create mission and outreach opportunities for youth to serve others
— Recruit and train teachers and volunteers to help with the youth ministry
— Clearly communicate with youth, parents, volunteers, and church staff
— Involve youth in the ministry of the church as a whole, supporting and participating in the church’s vision, worship services, and activities
— Establish a welcoming environment that encourages a growing relationship with Christ among youth and children
— Participate in, and encourage youth involvement in, Diocesan events and activities

PROGRAMS:

Coordinate all youth programs with other staff and volunteers, such as the following:
— Youth groups
— Confirmation
— Vacation Bible School
— Sunday School
— Youth Mission projects
— Church camp
— Social events
— Outreach to community youth
